Joint Lecture offered by Denise Mattson and Zaza Tsotniashvili to CIU Postgraduate Students of Media Studies
A joint lecture was offered to Caucasus International University Postgraduate students of Media Studies and Multimedia Production by Zaza Tsotniashvili, Supervisor of the same Postgraduate Program and CIU Professor and Denise Mattson, the representative of Chicago DePaul University within the framework of the academic course Information Strategies on April 29. The meeting was held online.
According to Zaza Tsotniashvili, Supervisor of the Postgraduate Program in Media Studies and Multimedia Production at CIU, a lecture of similar format fosters internationalization of education. In addition, he stated that international cooperation will continue and similar activities will become permanent.
Ms. Denise Mattson initially spoke about the domestic issues of Journalism Program at Chicago DePaul University and shared best practices in this area with the meeting participants. As Ms. Mattson noted, theoretical and practical knowledge are equally important for mastering journalism. This is why both components are equally emphasized at DePaul University.
In the second part of the meeting, Ms. Mattson spoke about the importance of effective strategic information policy management and shared her experience with the postgraduate students in this regard. She also highlighted the problems of ethical journalism, polarized media and information manipulation, and explained that the situation in this area is not so favorable.
Furthermore, Denise Mattson discussed information manipulation and reviewed the 2020 US elections in this regard. She also focused on the problems and challenges facing the American media.
“I was delighted to meet with CIU postgraduate students. The questions posed by them showed their significant awareness in the international arena. They have a great future in the field of communications!” - claimed Denise Mattson after the meeting.
The combined lecture lasted about an hour and was conducted in an interactive format. CIU postgraduate students asked thematic questions to the speaker and received comprehensive answers from her. In their estimation, an interesting collaboration took place and they hoped that similar practices would continue in the future.
